Hyperhidrosis and Underarm odor

Many people sweat when they play sports and other activities. Hyperhidrosis causes excessive sweating and symptoms such as "sweat stains on shirts due to underarm sweat" and "excessive sweating from the face and entire body". Hyperhidrosis can be caused by heredity or other factors but in many cases the cause is unknown. It can also be a symptom of abnormal thyroid functions or diabetes, so blood tests may be required. At our clinic, botulinum therapy is used to treat hyperhidrosis. We will make proposals that suit your needs, such as quick results or a reasonable treatment, so please feel free to consult with us.

Mechanism of Axillary Odor

Under the armpit, there are three types of glands: apocrine and eccrine sweat glands, as well as sebaceous(oil) glands. The cause of underarm odor is a mixture of sweat by the apocrine sweat glands, fat by the sebaceous glands and sweat by the eccrine sweat glands, which is decomposed by bacteria to produce a distinctive odor. People with a strong odor have high levels of apocrine sweat glands and it is necessary to remove them to fundamentally improve the condition.

Apocrine sweat glands

They are found in certain areas, such as the armpits, around the belly, genitals and nipples. The sweat secreted by the apocrine sweat glands itself generally does not have a strong odor. Apocrine glands are present from birth but become more active after puberty. Those who consume a lot of animal fat tend to have a particularly strong odor.

Eccrine sweat glands

They are found almost throughout the body and play a role in regulating body temperature by secreting sweat to release heat from the body. The condition in which the eccrine sweat glands secrete excessive amounts of sweat is called "hyperhidrosis".

Our treatment methods

Botulinum Therapy(For Hyperhidrosis Only)

Botox is injected into the armpits to stop sweating. Botox has the effect of blocking the signals that causes sweating. This treatment is easy to undergo and takes about 5minutes so you can go home immediately.

About the Effects

You will begin to feel the effects gradually after approximately 3days after the injection. The effect lasts from 4 to 9months.

About side effects

The injected area may become sore or red. Please be assured that most people will recover on the day.

Excision Method (for underarm odor only)

The "skin valve method" is a method in which a 3 to 5cm incision is made in the skin of the armpit and the layer of apocrine sweat glands is excised, leaving the skin in place. The skin is turned over and the apocrine glands that have emerged are cut with shears (scissors), which is why it is also called the skin valve method or shearing method. Since the surgery begins after local anesthesia is administered, there is little or no pain during the procedure. Most patients undergo the procedure as if they were asleep. Since the apocrine glands can be removed visually, this method is also expected to be highly effective.

Surgery Duration Total 1.5 to 2hours for both armpits
Stich Removal 1week after the surgery
Rest period You will be asked to compress the armpit for 3days; during the 3days, please avoid moving the armpit as much as possible.
Effect Since the apocrine sweat glands are removed, the patient will be close to the condition with people without underarm odor.
