Platysmaplasty – Pelican surgery

This is Dr. Nakao from Nakao Plastic Surgery.

There is a facelift surgery called Platysmaplasty or "Pelican surgery" among the incision lift surgeries.

It is a method to improve sagging under the chin that cannot be resolved by a neck lift.

First we incise the skin under the chin, then the subcutaneous fat and the fat under the platysma muscle are removed.

Next, the hyoid bone or tongue bone is marked and the submandibular gland, hyoid fascia, digastric muscle and platysma muscle are approached.

If the fat is subcutaneous, it may be possible to improve it with liposuction, however the "Pelican surgery" can also remove fat under the platysma muscle.

The area under the platysma muscle has many veins and requires treatment under visual observation and an incisional approach.

Although the Pelican surgery is sometimes performed alone, as our clinic's standard rule, we perform the Deep Plane Facelift in conjunction.

This is because we believe that sagging of the neck is not only caused by sagging fat or subcutaneous fat, but also by structural laxity of the platysma muscles and hyoid bone.

We believe that a tight and firm tension within the face line is beautiful.
