Anterior Septal Reconstruction
Hi this is Dr. Takashi from Nakao Plastic Surgery.
Nasal septum deviation is a situation where the nasal septum, the pillar of the nose is crooked and causing functional and cosmetic problems such as nasal congestion and a twisted nose.
The photo shows a deviated nasal septum. The nasal septum here is dislocated from the anterior nasal spine, which serves as the foundation of the nose. The nasal cartilage is acutely bent to the left or right.
This type of deformity is difficult to treat with nasal septum correction surgery done by otolaryngology or general ENT and we recommend a treatment with a hospital or clinic that specializes in nasal septum deviation.
If the deformity is severe, "extracorporeal septoplasty", in which the nasal septum is removed and a new nasal septum is reconstructed with the use of the rib cartilage is recommended.
This procedure will be a nasal reconstruction surgery where it is more advanced than a correction surgery.
Although most surgeries for nasal septum deviation are performed in otolaryngology, we as plastic surgeons are also able to perform the surgery.
